Ubuntu

Our Sony Vaio laptop imploded in Colorado, and I’ve spent the past couple of weeks taking it apart and putting it back together again in an effort to repair what’s turned out to be a hard drive problem.

Alas, ’tis still dead.

In their extraordinary vision, Sony included the “Windows disks” on a hidden partition on the drive rather than on, you know, actually disks. So when the hard disk went poof, so did our legitimate copy of Windows. To reinstall Windows on the new hard drive I’ve ordered, I’d need to buy it. Blech.

So, I’m installing Ubuntu. It’s free, it’s easy, and the little time I’ve spent with it has been quite positive. We’ll see how it goes.
